Cossham Hospital Campaign Update

Jo McCarron, Labour’s Parliamentary Candidate for Kingswood, today met the local NHS to feed-back residents’ concerns about the uncertainty hanging over the Minor Injuries Unit at Cossham Hospital

The meeting came a week after Jo launched a petition to make sure residents have their say about the future of emergency care services at Cossham. Jo and the Labour team in Kingswood have spoken to hundreds of people this week alone and the petition calling on the NHS to honour the commitment to provide a minor injuries unit is gathering pace. Jo explained that residents’ fear is that once again the services promised to local people will be downgraded – local people already feel let down by the decision to downgrade the Community Hospital promised at Frenchay.

The programme director of the South Gloucestershire Clinical Commissioning Group told Jo that no decision has been made, and that while they review the future provision of urgent care at Cossham the CCG is keen to hear the views of local residents.

After the meeting, Jo said:

“Together with the Labour team across Kingswood I’ll be running the Minor Injuries Unit petition and working closely with residents to make sure they have their say over the future of urgent care at Cossham. My focus is standing up for the community to help secure the services local people want, need and deserve.”
