South Gloucestershire Council adds warning about rogue sites to website under pressure from Labour’s Jo McCarron

South Gloucestershire council have this week added a warning about rogue ‘rip off’ websites to their website having had their attention brought to the issue by Jo McCarron, Labour’s Parliamentary candidate for Kingswood.

Jo wrote to the Chief Executive of South Gloucestershire Council last month to ask the council to play their part in warning residents about rogue websites having been told by some residents what these sites have cost them.

Responding to the news, Jo said:

“I’m delighted that the Council have taken action and are now playing a part in raising awareness of these sites that are conning people out of money. People who fall victim to these scams, particularly rogue passport sites, can be charged up to £99 just to be provided with an application form that is already free. It just adds to the sense that many people feel like they are constantly being ripped off left, right and centre.

“I’m pleased to have played a small part in helping people in South Gloucestershire avoid spending money that they don’t need to. I’ll be continuing to find ways to raise awareness of these terrible scams.”
